Joey Huang

An educational researcher, a learning scientist, and a designer.

Joey Huang is an Assistant Professor of Learning, Design, & Technology at North Carolina State University. With a background in educational psychology and computing, Dr. Huang’s research focuses on advancing computational thinking, educational technology, and equity in STEAM learning. Previously, Dr. Huang served as a postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, within the Creativity Labs and Connected Learning Lab. Through NSF-funded projects, including ReCrafting Computer Science, Dr. Huang integrates tangible crafts with computational thinking to broaden participation in computer science among underrepresented groups. Recognized with awards such as the ACM CHI Honorable Mention and AERA’s Best Student Paper, Dr. Huang specializes in AI-driven educational technologies, exploring how learners co-design with AI in STEAM contexts. Dr. Huang’s work aims to create personalized, interactive learning experiences for K-12 and undergraduate students, fostering a more inclusive and engaging pathway to STEM education.
